Biography of Serigne Ibrahima Mbacke Ibn Khadimu-r-rassul

The life story of Serigne Ibrahima Mbacke Ibn Khadimou-r-Rassoul remains still a mystery for most of nowadays Murid disciples for it was not only short lived but yet untold .He was born in 1912 in Daaru Alimul Khabir, Ndam; a locality three miles west of Touba. His mother Soxna Fatma who is of Moorish descent belongs to the tribe of Dawalhadji, a ramification of the Quraychit tribe. Her ascendance could be traced back to Fatima Bin Muhammad (pbuh). His short life was crowned with the completion of a mission that was so deared to the Sheikh that he designated him for the task.

The Shaykh’s mission in Gabon was to last eight full years, but he completed it within seven years and seven months thanks to his unshakable faith in Allah (SWT) and tremendous courage. When he was leaving Gabon, he prophesized to his disciple Samba Ndiaye, his return to these places (Congo) to fulfill his mission in these terms: “See these nine mango trees, they will die one after the other but one; Then I will come back for the completion of the eighth year as I pledged it to the prophet (pbuh)-he left Gabon three months prior to the fulfillment of his mission.
Almost fifty years after the Shaykh’s return, Shaykh Ibrahima Mbacke saw his father in a dream designating him to take the journey .He then, had the noble privilege to complete the mission, undertaken by his father, with the benedictions of Serigne Falilou Mbacke the caliph back then. In 1954 Shaykh Ibrahima left Mbacke Bari, near Mbacke-shocking coincidence for his father left the village of the same name located in the former Djolof province- at the beginning of his mission to Gabon. He made the same stops than his father during his journey in Gabon. He met with the 98 years old Samba Ndiaye who escorted him to all the places the Shaykh had visited. He showed him the last standing of the nine mango trees as predicted by the Shaykh telling him, though, he was seeing in his venue the return of the Shaykh himself.
Three months after his return from his three months journey in Gabon, Shaykh Ibrahima Mbacke passed away in Touba, which ended his mission on earth. The Shaykh’s choice over Serigne Ibrahima Mbacke was not fortuitous for the Shaykh said his journey to Mauritania was the time for collecting the fruits of his labor. Right after the term of his exile to Mauritania three of his children, whose mothers are of Moorish descent, were born:
  • Soxna Aminata Mbacke,
  • Serigne Abdoulaye Mbacke
  • Serigne Ibrahima Mbacke
So one fruit (offspring) from this mission was to complete the work of the Shaykh in Gabon and it turned out to be Serigne Ibrahima Mbacke whose status was no higher than that of his brothers. The Shaykh entrusted to each of his offspring with an earthly or mystical mission. Serigne Ibrahima Mbacke, the namesake of the prophet Abraham (AS) famous for performing miracles and his legendary generosity has had four offspring: Serigne Abdu Rahman Mbacke, Serigne Khadim Mbacke, (d. May 7th, 2001), Serigne Falilou Mbacke and Serigne Mame Mor Mbacke.
