Shaykh Ahmadou Bamba's Sayings

“Allah is the Giver and happiness is for those who follow the path of piety.”

Once the Shaykh said to the disciples regarding the Day of the Magal:” Any kind of entertainment you would have offered me if I was your visiting guest, I want you to do the same for my sake, as far as that day is concerned. He gave out to the disciples the sum of 3300 CFA (four times the same amount) to buy sugar; tea; coffee; and condiments to prepare meals

He said on another occasion regarding the importance of that day : “Whoever celebrates it (in accordance with his recommendations) will be forgiven his or her bad deeds committed from adulthood till death”.

The Shaykh made a very good observation of the western culture and has concluded that we, the disciples, can imitate them in these three things only: Respecting their job ; Reverence to their boss; their investigative nature or attitude towards things and matters.

Regarding his Endowments

Once the Shaykh called all the disciples and made them repeat after him “Glory be to God, Master of the worlds” three times. Then he explain them the rationale behind it in these terms: “You could have missed my presence in this life or I could have missed your presence in this life or you could have ignored me after knowing who I am. If you did not fall in these three categories, then you should thank Him three times"

About saying one’s prayers

"Once the Shaykh was saying his prayers and all of a sudden it started raining. When he finished he said: It is very painful to say one’s prayers under the rain, but to be trapped in a tomb in fire is more painful"
