A Brief History of The Prayer Space
Regarding the Eid prayer space, it has been used during the Shaykh’s lifetime and is still in use by the following generations and will be used by future generations for the same purpose. In a word every Mbacke generation, caliphs, religious leaders, passing dignitaries and disciples have, at least once in their lifetime, performed the Eid prayer at the place in question.
Back in the days, when following the location of the site, the Shaykh’s appointed Serigne Mbacke Bousso for its delimitations and setting, he mistook it with the Great mosque’s be fore he was corrected by the Shaykh’s who redirected him on the exact site location and its purpose.
This is how this space took form and grew in time to become the prayer ground during Muslim holiday’s mass prayers-Eid El Kabir and Eid El Fitr-following the recommendation of the shaykh.
Touba has now grown into a big city, so is its landscape, marked by modern infrastructures and architecture. Thus the Eid prayer place, as a landmark, needed a new makeup. Thus the first initiative to upgrade the existing building came from Serigne Abdul Ahad.
Thus during his caliphate Serigne Abdul Ahad’s began renovating it to its actual look. Now it is undergoing its third renovation phase, under the supervision of Serigne Murtalla Mbacke Ibn Serigne Abdul Ahad Mbacke.
