Ode to the Month of Ramadan: "The Most Distinguished Guest"

In his ode dedicated to the blessed month of Ramadan “Yaa Qayra Dayfi”, Serigne Touba is offering to the reader and especially to Murid disciples the dimensions of this blessed month; the blessings it carries and the place of choice it occupies among other months.

                     The Most Distinguished Guest
O you the most distinguished guest, carrier of joy and blessings, I welcome you and my door is opened to you
You are and will remain the illustrious guest paying us regular visits.
You will be welcomed accordingly with acts of worships and uprightness
You are glorified by the Master, Who has no partners; so do pious men, scholars but also righteous people
You also are a shield against the demons’ evil plans,
And you opened the gates of blessings for good people as well
You also are the permanent dissipater of any source of heart oppressing sorrow,
O you which hunts down the enemy
You increase for us year after year the blessings deriving from the countless generosities of The Riche the Noble Generous, He who provides in growth.
O month of the Generous Lord, we have been given the night of power thanks to you
I have an undying love for you; I pray the Lord, on your behalf for the plenitude of a joy free of sorrow
I repent also on your behalf for past actions, through invocation, thanksgiving actions and the Qur’an, for the sole glory of the One.
By Him I repented the whole month of Sha’baan previously begun on the month of Rajab, resuming (my repentance) with you. So testify of my renunciation from any triviality
Testify of my dedication, during my sojourn, to the Sacred Book, here in this place until my displacement on Saturday and Sunday
Be my witness also of the undying love I feel for you, O you my hope, be my beloved on the day of terror and sorrow
I have, without cheating, lot of affection for you, O holy month of Ramadan
I also welcome you and my door is opened to you
